I pulled over and was in neutral and the reverse lights were on.... tried shifting it , in and out of gears including reverse and the lights are stuck on 24/7...

Can you guys help me as to were I should begin to try ot identify this problem??? Thanks you very much and if any of you need custom paint work in NY look me up. Been airbrushing and custom painting for 35 yrs..

That is the weirdest problem I think ive heard... my guess would be that the sensor that tells the rear lights the car is in reverse is a bit stuck in the on position I dont know about anyone else on here but ive had little electric gremlins the whole time ive had my car as well

Yeah, I checked again today and they are still stuck on.... wonder where that sensor is, and how easy is it to get to.
Gonna give a look for it on the web maybe get lucky.

I'll look it up tomorrow on Alldata when i get to the shop, but Im betting the switch at the base of the shifter has gone bad and is stuck shut. Remove whatever you need to in your console/shifter area to get to the top of your transmission/transmission tunnel and see if you can see that switch. Unplug it. If the lights shut off the you know youve found it and go to Napa and get the switch. I prefer their Echlin line of electrical products over most. Keep us posted.

Assuming this is a automatic the sensor you are looking for is on the drivers side near the shifter cable connection to the manual valve arm underneath the car.

I love digging into the manuals

Auto- Transmission Range Switch- located on the transmission where the cable connects
Indicates to the PCM when the transmission is in park, neutral, reverse, drive. Information is used for starting, trans converter clutch, EGR, and IAC valve operation. 5.0L models will flash code 522

Manual- Backup Lamp Switch
On the transmission left side, (flat boot, two prong) it will be towards the top.

Thanks guys for the help.. I found the switch to the left of the transmission. I have a manual transmission. Unplugged it and the lights went out. Called for the part, will be getting it tomorrow. Little friggin thing costs $100 bones... ouch.. anyway.
When I remove the old one, is there any fluids that I need to worry about???

Again thanks for the help..
