Painting / recoating bolts
Im cleaning up the engine bay and have removed and painted some of the brackets, but all the bolts are rusty as well. Not rusted through, just surface rust. Despite cleaning things up, the rusty bolts leave a bit of an eye sore. I have thought about removing all the bolts and repainting them, because buying new nuts, bolts, and washers would get expensive fast.
My concerns are if I just paint/clear coat them, it would chip or peel the first time a wrench touches them. And treating / recoating them the way the factory did would be difficult and possibly expensive.
If I go the paint and clear route is there a good rattle can paint and clear coat that can withstand wrenches without flaking? Or should I just look into buying new bolts instead? Like an aftermarket bolt kit to dress things up.
Has anybody done that here?
