This is exactly what I was going to say!

Ever since I saw their coffee table, I've wanted to hit up a salvage yard and make one for myself.

The mod bug is definitely still getting me. I bought a set of these speakers last week to put in the doors, and installed them on Monday:

Amazon Amazon

Unfortunately, after about 20 minutes I noticed that even though they were given rave reviews by everyone that bought a set, I thought they sounded worse than the stock speakers (which I felt were kind of on the terrible side). So I did a bunch of reading and realized that the Metra adapters which are recommended for those speakers are actually the reverse polarity of what they should be for our cars. I also found out that if you wire speakers the wrong way, they'd still work, but you'd lose bass (who knew?). Some people apparently can't hear a difference, but I could tell right away that something wasn't right and that the bass was severely lacking.

Long story short, I bought some adapters from Crutchfield instead of Metra, and took the doors apart again last night. Now these speakers sound AMAZING. If I buy another set for the back and install them when I reupholster the interior to leather (I'll have the back set out of the car anyways), I really doubt I'll want a subwoofer anymore. If anyone is considering 6x8's for their doors, I highly recommend the ones I bought. Getting that door panel off the first time though...that was a complete nuisance. Simple, yes. Easy, no. Some of those catches really hang on the first time!

EDIT: For reference, the Metra adapter to avoid for the 2013 model year (probably more like 2010+) is the 72-5600. If you look it up on Amazon, you'll find other Mustang owners that say the same thing I did about reversed polarity issues.

I had a set of Pioneer 6x8 4-ways in my car. They did a fantastic job. (only switched them for component speakers to improve imaging by putting tweeters up in the A-pillars).

And you're right. Speaker phasing is critical to sound quality, surprised Metra bunged that up, they're usually pretty decent.

Sorry to hear about those engine troubles! Hang in there and keep your chin up! Soon enough you'll be back in the saddle.

Had a pretty decent day. Met up with a friend in Columbia, CT (in his "Vanilla Ice" style white '87 'vert), and cruised down to Southeastern CT Mustang Club's season end cruise-in in Uncasville.

Gorgeous scenery and weather for the trip down, had a great time hanging out and talking cars, many positive comments on the 'stang, including a couple that were amazed a V6 could actually sound good. Plus came home with a trophy

Since it's the only show type event I made it to this year, pretty glad it was a fun one.

Yep, getting set to head out shortly. See you there.

The good thing is the car is already pre-cleaned from yesterday. I'll just have to remove any bugs picked up and the highway and give it a quick once over with detailing spray.

Hey Shad, It was the same issue as before, "small leak detected in the Evap System". I cleared it that day and it hasn't come back yet. Next time it goes into the shop!

What happened to the idea of a northern cruise? I'd like to do another, but Kancamagus is a bit far. Maybe a Friday evening cruise ending in Epping for some drag racing?
