1986 MUSTANG 5.0 PIC, GET AT ME!!!
Hi all.
Just got my mustang, new to them..period. Its a 1986 wit a 302. The car is an automatic, but F*** it huh? lol, it has an Elderbrock carb and flowmasters. They say it has a 'shift kit' but im not sure yet. Have to get it looked at(how do you tell?)lol. Just gave it a good ole' oil change. It runs GREAT!! BUT...ima make it my project so what should be some stuff to look into that would make it run better, you know what im sayin, i hear a gear for the rear end?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated....Thanks

Man the car looks real solid! Any other info on it?
As far as the shift kit goes it should be easy to tell whether you have one or not just go full throttle from a dead stop and see if it shifts around 4 or 6k rpm. If you get a firm high shift from 1st to 2nd you're good to go. If not it should shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd rather far away from red line.
good luck!
Edit: As far as mods go, make sure you fix every LITTLE issue you can find before you try and make it faster. Many people will tell you the same thing. Check all your wiring, lighting, fluids yadda yadda. When you're done with that, if you plan on doing city driving and track racing only go rebuild yourself a rear end with a new trak-lok and some 373 / 410 gears, some royal purple rear end fluid and a nice aluminum drive shaft. Thats a start!
