What should I be looking for on this engine going to look at it this upcoming weekend its already pulled sitting on an engine stand.
A lot of blue paint was wasted on the newspaper.......Do you get intake, carb, exh. manifolds, valve covers, timing cover, oil pan? Ask why these parts were removed, was trouble being experienced with the engine? Did it even run? Ask if bearings have been checked, whether the heads were removed and thrown back on.
The ever-important question: "Why are you selling it". Look for, listen for, evasive answers. imps
I'd see if it's a roller cam engine or a flat tappet. You can convert them from flat tappet to roller, but I think you're still limited in your cam selections if that's a big deal for you
From: I reside in a near constant state of amazment.
First thing I'd do is to rotate the engine and see if it rotates smoothly. Since it looks like the engine has already been partially blown apart, ask if you can take off the heads and check the cylinder bores for excessive wear. Ask if you can pop off a couple main caps and check the bearings for excessive wear. Lotsa copper = lotsa wear. Lotsa wear = a beat down on the price. If he won't let you do a thorough inspection, I'd walk.
