starter
i dont believe anyone makes them, but i can bet you phil knows where to get one. theres also a place in PA and a place in VA that have II cars and parts......... im gonna gather a list up supply sources and make it a sticky for you guys
I haven't checked with Johnsons Mustangs in Chesapeake, VA. I've been looking on line, found one company in VT that will totally rebuild your old one, price ranges from 75 to 150 depending on the type and how extensive the repair will be....my guess is 78 M-II + really bad shape = $150! Good thing about him is he'll give you a 24 to 48 hour turn around.
SSC Enterprises carries the o-ring and the retainer ring, he just doesn't have any sending units right now.
Do you have Phil's number that you can post or e-mail to me? He's in AL right?

Micah,
You're going to need to remove the motor mount from the frame and block, support the engine with a jack and a block of wood under the harmonic balancer, the starter will slide straight forward, right past where the motor mount was installed, yes you're darn right that's one hell of a pain the a$$! It will not drop down anywhere near the area that your picture shows.....

You may try my way. Two bolts hold the rack on for the steering, pull those out and thenthe rack will swing down out of the way and the starter will squeeze through there. It is still tight but it fits. I changed mine on soft ground and didn't have a good jack handy.
