I remember when leaded gasoline promised to ruin all of our cars. THE END IS HERE. Anyway, we replaced our valve seats and went on for another 100,000 miles. I suspect that the conversion to ethanol will be similar. I don't however beleive that the price per gallon will go down. The producers, mixers, and pumpers will all incur costs to infrastructure upgrades because it doesn't like to be pumped and it likes to stick to water. Once they recoup costs, the price will stay up there cause, well...they got us by the #^%%s.
