Most V8 sports cars on the road are overkill for speed now a days anyway. I've seen people get into trouble and run 10's and 11's in the S197 V6 model so what does that tell you about the V8? I think you just have an engine displacement problem, but what most idiots don't realize is bigger engine=more weight so it is wiser to make a more efficient 4.6/3V or say more efficient 4.6/4V or a 5.0/3V than throwing in a 5.7/2V or 6.2/2V like GM which the engine needs to make probably an extra 20-30hp than a similar 4.6 mustang just to compensate for the extra weight.

Pricier car in same class of cars usually means more power/more options. That's how it goes. And if that is really your problem and everyone else's problem they should have bought the GT500 and future GT500 not the future GT. It costs the extra $15k-$20k more than the GT (which is the price range of the cars we are talking about), has a 5.4 liter supercharged engine, runs mid 12's stock, and can be made a lot faster than the pushrods your talking about for less money.GT500 can hit 11's for about $1k or less, 10's for about $3k or most likely less, and the list continues. That's your answer, stop worrying about the GT model if you want lots of power and put your money where your mouth is obviously and buy the GT500. End of Rant and end of discussion.

You said it all there. GT500 has been there for the past 3 years for those who want more power instead of a standard GT. But, I think it would be neat if Ford did the twin turbo thing they are doing with the V6 to the V8 also. That might pump up the HP to the 400 mark and make all the HP junkies happy. The problem is, they would probably pump up the price tag to 35,000 and everybody would be unhappy about that.

sorry to say but the GT500 isn't really what we're talking about.... what those of us who want more power are talking about is a Mustang GT with HP around the 400 mark... not the standard 300 of the contemporary GT nor the Supercharged 500 of the SHelby GT500

Ford has always been one to compete for your $$. If by making the engine size bigger gets you to spend your money, then thats what Ford will do. I'd certainly like to see a lighter 302 block available. Does ford want to make two engines with the same 302ci compete with each other though?

You guys act like the GT500 doesnt exist. It will wax the SS & the SRT8, so whats the problem here? Seems like a bunch of GT whiners who cant afford a GT500. That's your problem, not Fords.

I agree with a drunken llama. 9million, what they are arguing is that the base model mustang V8 is nothing compared to the base model of the camaro, charger, challenger etc. You cannot compare the GT500 to the camaro z28 because they are completly different classes. A Z28 and a Mustang GT are in the same class... GT500 is not part of it... I personally think it is ridiculous but we cannot jump the gun before the actual engine is released. I think it would be a bad move if they keep the 4.6L because more sales will go to GM. And fyi a new Mustang GT is selling for 31K average while the new camaro will be sold for 33-38K. I would dish out 2K for 110 Hp... plus it is an LS engine. They are notorious for accecpting mods. It is one hell of a motor... Im a mustang fan but if they dont bring a challenge to GM, ford = ftl. Like some one said earlier, tehre are 350z with better gas mileage that come from the factory with the same power as the GT's do now... The market is changing and ford isnt. My car has several thousands invested in it and i run 11.9. I cant even beat a stock C6 ZO6. i raced one and got my *** handed to... We have SRT 4's with 285 hp. PS. when chevy came out with the C6 Zo6, dodge compensated it by adding 100 hp to the viper, it has been done and now ford should copy it and do it.

2012 is a bit of wait for engine changes. I mean I am not selling my car any time soon, but a figure if the 2010s only had a modest power increase from a 4.6, it'd be fine. As previously mentioned, I'm not totally convinced about any of these internet "facts" until it actually comes out.

Ford should be able to put out a 400 hp Mustang without bumping up the price to much. Look at the G8 6.0 360hp for 30k

The GT500 is in the same class as the mustang gt and camaro Z28 and challenger srt-8. If it wasn't than why would car magazines compare them already and run tests for them against each other?

YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY!

$37k is closer to a base $42,500 gt500 then a loaded $30k gt...

Yeah, we can't have it all. Would we be happy with a 400 hp GT at $30,000 instead of our current 300 hp GT at $26,500? The current GT CS starts at $30,270. The Bullitt starts at $31,685. I think the Bullitt is a bad deal compared to the rest for what you get. I admit that I bought my Mustang on looks more than hp. Sure I wanted the 500 hp GT500 but I didn't want to pay $43,000 for it. I paid $28,500 for my GT/CS.
