140MPH?

I don't see how you could run 140+ in a stock eclipse seeing as how the speed limiter is set at 135? My turbo eclipse hits 135 and shuts down.

Only the FWD models have one at 135 due to there crappier tires. Read up.
They are gear limited stock to about 172mph and quite a few people have gotten stock ones above 150-160mph.

I've went over 145+ easily in a stock 4 banger eclipse so it should be no problem. He is still probaly full of it though as he'd be telling you from a jail cell.

RE: 140MPH?
1999 Eclipse GSX
0-60 mph 6.5 sec
0-100 mph 17 sec
1/4 Mile 15.1 @ 93 mph
Top Speed 137 mph
Gas Mileage 21 MPG City / 28 MPG Highway
I'm not buying a 3100 lb car with 210 HP (Assuming you had a 5-speed) went 145+. And the GSX and GST both came from the factory with the same tires. Goodyear Eagle RS-A.
I'm not trying to start anything, but I'm just pointing out facts here bud.

I totally understand, much the same way I wouldn't believe a stock ls1 can put down 300+ to the wheels if I wasn't familar with them and just going off factory stats. Is a 137 from the factory number and me doing 145 THAT hard to believe.
A couple of things at work here
1. Speedos are inaccurate at that speed and i realize that. Me doing 145 could of been 135 for all we know. Though stock cars have done 150+ on GPS.
2. It seems to vary greatly between cars and I've noticed this personally, most of that due to the fact you're dealing with 10 year old beat up turbo cars.
3. I'm well aware where the car is gear limited has no indication on stock top speed as the eclipse no way in hell has the power to hit 172mph stock.
4. They have very low wind resistance and one of the best coefficent of drag ratings out there, .28-.29 depending on source. It helps having the cd rating of a vette.
5. Every other source agrees with me Plenty of stock cars hitting 138-160 below.

About the tires FWD/AWD, different speed ratings..
Some 2G FWD cars have a speed limiter which cuts off fuel at 130 MPH. This is because the stock H-rated tires are only rated up to 130 MPH. Replacing the tires and performing this procedure will eliminate it.
