OR, I could buy a Camaro SS for $30,000 and have a 422hp LS3. Hmm. I think I'll save the $17k, invest about $8k into a supercharger and drivetrain upgrades, blow the GT500 away and then put the other $9k into savings so that when Obama's tax increases go into effect I have a buffer.

And the new Mustang GT? I think it's priced about right for what you get. I'm just not too impressed with what you get. I'd wait a year and see what the 2011 model brings. If it has a 400hp 5.0L V8 starting at $28k -- I think that's the sweet spot.
Show me where you can get an SS for $30K. . .retail, not written in some ad (with fine print galore) or what MSRP is. You won't be able to touch teh SS for under 35K-40K can anyone say GTO all over again?

Sticking with the subject............IMO it's fairly even if one could deal on a GT500 like on a GT. Having worked in sales at a Ford dealer up to a year ago, I can say that a deal on a loaded GT is $4K off of sticker (depending on rebates), while a bottom deal on a GT500 is MSRP. I could maybe deal with a $12K difference, but not $15K and over. Personally, I'd rather have the sleeper and fork over the $6K for the 500 hp FRPP blower kit on the GT and run low 12s with it's lower weight, and upgrade other things as I feel like it.

I gotta say the GT is the better value on that one. As awesome as the insane amount of power coming from the GT500 its just way too much for the car to handle and they get awful mileage. I think Ford needs to put some stuff back in line because when you look at the numbers in performance the 03-04 Cobra posts the same kind of stuff that the GT500 does only it does it with much better gas mileage but a lot less horsepower. Don't get me wrong I would love to own a GT500 but would it be worth it, not at all.

I would still take an 03-04 termi over a gt500, just because of the refinement. To me these "muscle cars'' are getting to refined. And plus the gt500 just seems big to me. Like machracer pointed out the run similar times with a big difference in power. Plus you can get one these days for around 20k.
