2011 Mustang GT faster than Camaro SS by "a substantial margin"
Drag RACE Showdown: 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 Vs. 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Popular Hot Rodding reports:
PHR is one of the lucky few magazines to get invited to Ford’s 2011 Mustang 5.0 press junket. And while we’re sworn to secrecy until March 29 not to divulge our driving impressions, they said nothing about giving away the pure facts, so here goes. This morning, we arrived at Camarillo Airport where a huge stretch of tarmac was cordoned off for eighth-mile drag racing. It was clear from the moment we arrived that the 2010 Camaro SS was right in the crosshairs of Ford’s non-Federal-bailed-out gunsights. And while many of us U.S. taxpayers were secretly rooting for the government-subsidized Camaro, the well-represented Mexican press contingent had no such predilection. On deck was the 400-hp six-speed automatic equipped 2010 Camaro, and the six-speed automatic-equipped 2011 Mustang GT with its new-for-2011 five-liter mill making an “official” 412 hp.
Journalists alternately lined up to drive both cars trying different launch techniques, and when the dust settled, every scribe to a man (and woman) had a fistful of timeslips to prove that the Mustang was faster—and by a substantial margin...

Wonder what elevation that was ... ran a 8.437 @ 84.4 MPH (13.082 @ 105.05) with way less HP than either of those cars.
It must have been a pretty high elevation because either one of those cars should be able to beat me if it was an equal elevation.

I think that they were racing at Camarillo Airport in california...at a very good elevation and it was last week, so probably pretty good air. however, these numbers are from writers with no seat time...just get in and go...on a bare, unprepped runway. they also werent permitted to heat up the tires.

Reasons why this will be the slowest time you will see -
Writers
Little seat time
Not a race prepped surface
Automatics
No burnouts allowed
Factors that are just question marks -
what rear end gear was in the 'Stang?
what are the shift points?
Just food for thought, but I think this will be on the slow end of all numbers we will see. It is essentially how fast anyone who just mashes the pedal down on the street will go, which is pretty good, still. Wait for the floodgates to open in about 42 minutes.

We already know those numbers are way too slow for the Camaro since people have got in to the 12's with them
Those drivers would have to be pretty **** poor to get that bad of a time... I mean if you just follow the rule of launch at 1700~ish you should be able to pull better times than that even w/ the tires cold...
