imo they need to bring back said super car in the form of the t-bird.
have 3 levels of thunderbird and have each one wipe the floor with it's rival 'vette version.
hopped up version of the
5.0 say (425hp)
hotter still version of the 5.0 (520hp)
blown 5.0 (650hp)
all with direct injection and standard 6-speed auto/manual tranies.
get the styling, handling, build quality and promoting right and chevy will have a serious threat to deal with imo.

Use the old one & add a little more boost, "something old is new again". These new ones are amazing also, Ford can't go wrong if it wants to have one of the baddest exotics on the planet, it has the ability, no doubt. Just do it.

I was actually about to say this same thing a day or two ago. The Thunderbird lost it's way anything after '57.
What we need is a low 3000lb 2-seater that's powered by a BOSS302-spec 5.0 to run against the base 'vette, then a 2nd tier Thunderbird GT(or whatever suffix you prefer) powered by a 5.8L Coyote to match up with the Z06 and lastly a new Thunderbird SuperCoupe with a boosted version of either the 5.0 or even 5.8 to take on the ZR-1.

People that buy these cars aren't all that hurt by the crappy economy, so it's a whole different market.
