Default Sticky Speedometer

My 05 Stang speedometer needle is stuck on the peg. Any chance the speed sensor has dirt on it or has become defective?

Probably the stepper motor on the gauge.

Stepper motor is shot on the gauge cluster... Very common with 2005s and early 2006s. I had 3 of my 4 gauges die before replacing the gauge cluster. They act sporadically or not at all.

Thanks!

Did you eventually replace the cluster with OEM or Aftermarket? How tough was it to replace and at what cost?

Replaced it with a new OEM one.... I paid around $300, and the dealership will have to configure it for your car. Or on eBay there is a guy that repairs them and replaces the stepper motors in the cluster for around $150 I believe. Or the motors are $7 a piece if you are confident with de-soldering and soldering 4 points for each motor.

Yup, after working for about 6 years mine started to screw up on battery, temperature and oil level. But as long as the fuel, rpm and speed are still working I'll hold off on replacing it. The engine will throw a code when **** hits the fan, and I know I am not running hot.

300 bucks for a replacement? I saw 800 being the norm to get it replaced. Hence me holding off till it dies completely / I get some major money in the bank.

I found a speedometer repair shop that will fix it for 225.00 and there are places on line that will even fix it for far less if you take out the cluster and send it in for repair. 3-5 day turn a round time if you send it in with overnite shipping. Dealers want 300 - 500 bucks
