When is the 50th anniversary Mustang?

See how hard that was to find a credible source.

The 50th anniversary would be more significant, than all the other so called anniversary models produced. Because 1965 is the first Model year by Ford VIN's, and 2015 is the stated new model, I think it's safe to say that Ford will more than likely release the 50th anniversary to coincide with the actual announcement of the 1965 model. I believe they will announce the 50th anniversary model at the New York auto show, in April 2014.

So if they were titled with VIN's as 1965's it doesn't really matter when they were put on sale, they were 1965 models. Just like the 2014's are on sale now in early 2013 but they are titled as 2014 models.
So why were the 40th anniversary badged cars 2004 models and the 45th anniversary badged cars were 2009 models instead of 2005's and 2010's? Maybe Ford isn't good at math.

The '64 1/2 was a market test for a new model. They were registered with '65 because of course there is no 1/2 year in the registry. Then, due to their success, Ford produced more of them later and released them towards then end of the year. (around Oct./Nov. I believe)
So by the manufacturer, there is a '64 1/2 and a '65. By the registries there is an early '65 and a late '65. The way to know which is which is by tracking the V.I.N.

Ford was already fully committed to ongoing Mustang production, the '64 1/2 are just early production models, with some detail and component variances compared to the latter part of the model build.
