New GT owner
Well I finally put in an order for a Mustang, 2007 GT Prem. in Alloy w/ Red Leather, 3.55 LSD, and that's about it, a few lil other things (spoiler delete, mud flaps, all weather mats, etc), went on the production line Thursday, March 8th, and looking at sometime in May or beginning of June for delivery.
I've been racing for about 7yrs, everything from street racing (young and very dumb) and drag racing to autocross, road racing, time attack to ice racing to drifting.
Currently I mostly do lapping days, autocross, and drift days w/ my Nissan 240sx (set in EP class for now until other engine is built and turbo'd). Nothing much right now, stripped and gutted down to ~2300lbs plus me, 6-point cage, fully upgraded drivestrain, stock engine w/ simple bolt-ons (147rwhp/145rwtq @ last tune, closer to 155rwhp now), with another engine in the process of being built to handle 12-16psi and 500hp, with goals of 300-330rwhp, nothing insane, just fun for medium-big tracks that we have around here (Road America, Gingerman, Blackhawk, USAIR, etc) and for drifting.
The GT will be set-up for FS classing for autocross, so nothing too far from stock; axleback or catback, drop-in filter and some R-compounds on another set of 17x8s rims. Just looking to get to know the car further than I do now and input on the best parts to go with and things to know and watch for that are problem areas and faults (all cars have them, just the facts of being into cars and racing).
Thanks,
Jay

RE: New GT owner
Just ordered up my SCT tuner last week, and will be looking at ordering up an axle-back once I decide which one to get (pretty sure I'm going to get the SLP Loudmouths).
Here's my question:
My Mustang GT(that I'll be driving in FS) will be getting some upgraded pads to go along w/ the new tires. I couldn't get the slicks as the extra set of rims/r-compounds was a little out of the budget for right now, so going w/ some Falken Azenis RT-615s in 245/45-17 as they are a good tire for spring-fall weather and awesome for auto-x (I've been running the Azenis {then RT-215s, now the RT615s} for almost 5yrs on my several different cars). However, I'mnot sure what to suggest. This is a daily driver, and these pads will be in the car year-round. However, brake dust and noise isn't that big of an issue (noise a little bit, but not so much). And I've only had experience w/ the HPS pads (in my WRX), which worked great, would highly suggest them, but I want the best line of parts that are allowed in stock SCCA classing, that don't need to be switched before/after the event, and that's still daily driver friendly. Just looking for other peoples take on the HPS vs. HP+ pads. Only track time that this will see is auto-x, 1/4 mile runs and perhaps same time out on smaller road track, so not much high-high speeds (max ~100-105mph), so far the HPS seem to fit the bill in my mind, but then again, I've also only had experience with the HPS pads (and other pads, EBC, Project Mu, Wilwood, etc, but Hawk is the only company that offers performance pads right now for the s197 {2005+ Mustangs}), and I want the best.
Any info or opinions you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay
PS- FYI, price difference for full set (fronts/rears) is only ~$60 after shipping, so money isn't a factor here. Thanks again!

RE: New GT owner
Ok, well no one answered my question on the brakes, but that's ok.
I know this is one of those stupid "car vs car" questions but..
'07 GT Vs. '03 Mach 1?
How do they compare on the drag strip? Both are stock and manuals, and the '07 has the 3.55 gears w/ LSD. Given both drivers are equally good drag racers.
I ask because a friend of mine at work and I were talking, and he's trading in his '04 GT for a '03 Mach 1. He's a big Mustang guy, but he doesn't know all his facts 100% (thought his '04 GT had 300hp stock, actually 260 and thought the Mach 1 had 350hp, not 305, etc). The Mach 1 will be his 3rd sn95 Mustang (had a Cobra w/ the 320hp dohc 4v, the '04 GT and now the Mach 1), so I'd say his driving abilities in the car are better than mine as I've only driven a few Mustangs ('04 GT, a few 80's 5.0s, a couple different s197 GTs, etc), but only beating on friends cars or test drives. However, I have hundreds of racing seat time, mostly road race and autocross, but have been in drag racing w/ great results. So I'd say his knowledge of driving a Mustang Vs. my racing experience that we'd be pretty equal until I'd really get used to my new GT. This would be on our local drag strip, not street racing or anything stupid.
So yeah, how would a '07 GT (3.55/lsd) fair against a '03 Mach 1? Both being manuals, both on stock tires, both bone stock cars, and with equal drivers.
Thanks,
Jay

Jay, the best area to get your questions answered is in the 05-07 section. You can copy and paste, so that you don't have to rewrite the whole thing.

Good luck...
