Default coolant problems

hi, i have a 1999 svt and lovein it ...but last summer my engine collant light came on and has stayed on ever since. I brought it to the dealer had them check the fluid and its all good..they said they could run some tests to see what the problem is .my brother had a merkur years ago and had the same problem they found the sensor in the overflow tank needed replacement and it fixed the problem ,could it be??? The problem is that you have to buy the whole tank ,you cant buy just the sensor
