RE: new to forums, want to learn upholstery
Welcome to the forum first of all.
It's not as easy as you think it might be and the equipment needed to sew with is expensive. Not something you want to try by hand since you can't get the seams tight enough. If you have a heavy duty sewing machine and know how to use it, you can do simple covers. You have to take off your current covers and use a razor to remove all of the stiching. You then use the pieces as a pattern to cut out the newmaterial. Pleating takes lots and lotsof practice. You would come out cheaper by having it done. If you really want to learn how....I suggesttrying to find a local shop that will let you do a internship with them for a while. Wouldn't get paid.... but you would learn how it all works and might be able to get your car done at cost. I did this when I was younger on the weekends and learned a lot that I have used over the years.
Good luck

i apologize in advance for drudging up a 'dead' thread.. but i wanted to update you all. there's a technical school around here that offers a 20 week upholstery course! So once they start the new semester, I'll be signing up!
Thanks for all your advice, guys!
