from slug to street thug
i have a 1985 mercury carpi rs 5.0. with aod transmission in excellent condition. it has the cadillac white diamond pearl paint job. scoop on the hood is painted flat black with the words "wanna play?" on the side. i got about a year ago. it was all stock except for bbs headers and flowmaster exhaust. currently under surgery for the following....
Machine Work: (being done by Kinetic Racing Engines of Westland, Michigan)
Remove old freeze plugs and cam bearings
Hot tank block (wash & degrease)
Bore block for .030 over pistons
Machine clearence block for 3.400 stroke
Install new freeze plugs & cam bearings &
final wash for assembly
Parts:
347 stoker kit (eagle crank, kb pistons, I beam rods
etc)
Melling high press oil pump
AFR 185 cc heads (the big boys for the street)
Ford Motorsport gasket set
RPW alum rocker arms 1.6 ratio
ARP heavy duty oil pump drive shaft (a weak point in
stock Ford engines)
650 DP Holley carb
Edelbrock RPM Performer intake
Comp Cam lifter valley spider (for roller lifters)
Comp Cam hyd roller cam (custom grind over .500
lift, i'll have final numbers later)
This is about 95% of all the parts. I'm still checking around for the transmission stall speed converter (3500 rpm), and will need roller lifters. Also, getting total rear end rebuild with 4:10 gearing.
i don't know much about engines so i'm leaving in the hands of my horsepower doctor mr finley. he says when completed i'll be in the neighborhood of 430-460 hp.
for those of you who are familiar with engines and performance, can i have feed back on the surgery if its good or needs anything. also, i have 225/60/16 on rear and 215/60/15 on front. what type of tires should i be replacing those with if at all? i want this baby to be right come spring!!!

photo to come soon for sure!!

RE: from slug to street thug
I'm not exactly an expert on the 347 stroker's, but it sounds like you've got most of what you need already.. I maybe brain-farting, lol, but I would say on tires I wouldn't go anything skinnier than about 275's in the rear, maybe 245's up front.. Again, I don't know a whole lot about the way the 80's capri's are set up.. I was only thinking that with those tires and that much power in a car that size you'd probably have some middling to very frustrating traction problems..

thanks alot for the info. i talked to a co-worker and he said the same thing. the 85 capri is pretty much as the 86 mustang except for the bubble rear glass. i guess i'll start looking at wheels and tires. apperciate the help.
