Welcome to the forums! We have a vette too - a Silver Anniversary that was a project car, and took seven years to complete!
It's not a complete Vette though since it has Ford seat belts haha
that's how we were able to have it and not feel too guilty! 
Good luck with the project - they make take some time but they are worth it in the end!!
