Default 2005 Mustang

To Whom Ever Can Answer This,

I have ordered a 2005 Mustang GT as of April. Living in Wisconsin, I have concerns about how well the car will drive in ice and snow. Has anyone purchased an '05 last Fall and driven it in winter? Can this be a safe winter car?

Thanks,
Bill Goszinski

It may be "safe", but I'd recommend finding a second car (a beater if necessary) to drive in the winter. I just got my 05 and have no plans of driving it in rain or snow. With 300HP and that type of torque you won't be going far on ice or in more than a few inches of snow. I've owned and driven an 82, 85 & 93 (all 5.0's) and none of them did worth a hoot in snow or ice. Heck, they didn't much like taking off on any sort of incline even on WET pavement!! But if you chose to do it, you'll find it easier to take off in second gear in slick conditions (assuming you got a five speed). If you got an AT, then you might be better off - especially with the Traction Control on.

Oh yeah - if you drive it in the ice and snow, I'd stay at or below the speed limit, follow at least twice your normal follow distance and ATTEMPT to start stopping very early!!! And watch out for the "other guy" as thats who got me in my 93 a few years ago!

i would get a second beater car for sure. my stang doesnt like ice and snow. i usually park her away for the winter.

salt is bad for cars. if you can all help it put the 05 away and just put storage insurance on it from Oct. 1st to Apr. 1st

If you must drive it in the winter invest in snow tires.
Otherwise you'll be driving a sled.

Good point PR - not only snow tires, but cheapy rims to go with those snow tires. It will make the change a quick process and save you the hassle of polishing off the salt corrosion during the winter! Otherwise a sled is a very accurate description!
