4.6L power upgrade

4.6L power upgrade
I've been told that I can take my 2008 GT Mustang and with an upgrade to the cold air intake and an exhaust upgrade I can get about 47 hp of additional power by the Accessorize Manager at my Ford dealership, is this true as I want to boost the power without going to a charger right now.......Ignore my misspelling on my login name as I am awaiting MF to correct the spelling to Highway Star (Deep Purple song).

RE: 4.6L power upgrade
I would think this is just another way for the stealership to make some money off an ignorant costumer. I run bone stock, but a lot of people on here bought their own cai+tuner rather than let the stealership do it.

RE: 4.6L power upgrade
Thanks for the replay, I guess I am still a little curious as to how much of a benifit you might get as all articles state the cold air filter is good for 20hp and if you are driving more air down the cylinders then a freerer flowing exhaust would allow the cycle from intake to exhaust to me far more efficient then pure GT stock but I guess I'll need to do more investigating. The previous reply spoke of ignorance on the buyer but there was a time I ran a 340 Road Runner, 390 Mach 1 and a 440 Road Runner back in the 70's (younger days) and I built these cars but I've been out of it for so many years raising a family and now it's time to drive a muscle car again and I will as I am not satisfied with the stock performance of the GT..........I like it but I just want some more muscle on demand.

Welcome to MFs..
not really the section for tech questions...
i personally wouldn't buy any extras from the dealership, there are nicer looking CAIs out there, and cheaper or compareable pricing. but regardless of where you get a CAI, there's only so much air that flows down into the combustion chamber without forcing it mechanically. (supercharger, turbo) the biggest restriction i've seen on the stock intake is that cardboard rolled up filter in the corrugated intake tube, and the "box" around the filter. that corrugated tube doesn't help much either.
i've read alot of reviews, and books and information on all these CAIs, i've actually dyno tested mine with a C&L CAI (with a tune) and if stock is around 250/260hp at the rear wheels (yeah, 300hp is at the motor/flywheel) i saw an increase of about 22hp with the C&L CAI & tune and X-pipe & 3" magnaflow exhaust (the larger exhaust will be needed more if i supercharge it) - and you'll need a tune with more air-flow going across the MAF.. if you don't get a tune, the MAF throws up a bazillion error codes.. although there are a couple CAIs that claim you don't need a tune with their CAI, i tried Granatelli's and it wouldn't work for me (2008 GT) i had to send it back.
all that gain is mostly over 3000 RPM and the dyno HP levels out more instead of falling down on the graph. ie.. it's stronger on the top end of the RPM range.
i guess my reply is simply.. most bolt on stuff wont' gain you much.. underdrive pulleys will gain you a little, cam will gain you a little. but FI (forced intake - supercharger, turbo) is about the best way besides Nitrous to get HP gains in my opinion.
good luck

I am also new to this - i've added a cold air filter, and tuner and have noticed a nice increase from stock. What else would be good short of getting a supercharger? I definatley want a supercharger in the future - but want to wait a little while since i just bought the car. Does it make sense to change the exhaust first? If so, what parts of the exhaust should I change?
Does changing the exhaust/headers/mid pipe make a noticeable difference or will it need to be done in order to put a supercharger in? If so, what parts of the exhaust should i change, and in what order? headers, midpipes, etc.. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
