Default mustang gt hatch alignment

i have a 1991 gt with 8200 orginal miles. the problem im having is the hatch is badly misaligned. a body shop blamed the aftermarket lift supports that i installed when one of the originals died, but removing them didnt change much. one side at the top is obviously too low causing one side of the bottom to jut out towards the passenger side. anyone know of a mechanic or shop that has specific knowledge in adjusting this correctly in the Columbus Ohio area? i still have to find some OEM lift supports but i dont think that alone will solve it.

I would think just about any bodyshop would be able to fix it.
Was it in a wreck? Could the hatch be a bit twisted from a wreck?
I don't own a fox body, but you might be able to fix it or make it better yourself using an appropriate size block of wood under the driver side hinge and gently shutting the hatch pressing down on the passenger side bottom? Are there bolts you could loosen and re-tighten that change the alignment? Just some thoughts. Good luck.

What's wrong with the lift struts??......to long? Again what topcat said hinge adjustment or check for your bump stops at bottom rear of opening. You can adjust them yourself easy enough.

Default hatch misalignment solved

fixed it. i had the hatch supports on wrong for one thing with the cylinder side towards the body. i was able to adjust the driver side forward to fix the misalignment. getting the hatch to latch tight was a problem that had me frustrated until i realized that the latch pin was supposed to have a sleeve over it and it was missing. a quick trip to lowes and $2 and it is good and tight. it has never been in an accident but the previous owners child climbed on the roof trying to reach something up high in the garage, damaging the roof and misaligning the hatch. the damage is 98% fixed, one small indent that probably cant be worked out but is extremely hard to see.
