Everett,
For the price you pay, it darn well better be. Isn't Castrol Edge about 8 bucks a quart now? I still haven't heard 100% which base stock is currently being used in the formulation.
Oil formulated by Exxon Mobil and BP (Castrol) have always been tight lipped about their base stock of choice. They don't want you to know you are buying cheaper base stocks, yet still paying a premium for it. From what I have read on BITOG about Edge, I would prefer Pennzoil any day of the week. At least Pennzoil was honest, and openly admitted they were using group III base stocks. They also charge properly for it, unlike Edge. Rumors have it that Edge is primarily group III base stocks with a lower percentage of group IV PAO added.
