Default Auto - X

my auto mechanics teacher is realy into suspension he has a older inline 4 2door toyota carolla that we work on in class and he auto crosses it on weekends. we have gutted the car now it just has 2 bucket seasts, new gauges, a wheel, pedals ,and parking brake we have installed 4 wheel disc brakes, cylinder head work, custom oil pan, swaped springs, lowered car, new struts, swaybars, moved the engine back as far as possible without hitting fire wall, rear gears, swapped the old tranny for a newer one that we had on hand and some other things

and i was just wondering if any one out their has done anything close to this with a mustang it seems like a fun sport but i have never seen a mustang set up spicificaly to auto x

There are many of us into Autox......... Not sure that anyone has prep the car to that extreme, but there are many running....

from the my post on the 40Collective...

Well I finished the last event for the year. Had a horrible time on this particular layout, for some reason there were two gates that keep on confussing the crap out of me!!!!!

Managed to score on two out of 4 runs, still is a blast, Just wasn't with it today!!

Here is a clip of my sixer.....

The car doesn't have to be gutted & stripped to be good in autocross. The winner of the Solo 2 Nationalsand the Pro Solo Nationalin F stock last year was an '03 Mach 1. Stock class basically only allows struts, cat back, and R comp tires. Look it up - Jason Burns won both in a stock Mustang.

Hey I think I'm running my first AutoX event this weekend. My car has SLP LMs, stock mid pipe. Do you think it will be too loud for their tastes? The course is at Englishtown NJ, in the parking lot of a dragstrip. Hope I'm not answering my own question.

my auto-x/ club race project car is an 84 hatchback and istotaly gutted, caged, custom built chassis braces, push button start, window nets. Next i got to install the racing bucket, and do some body mods (custom built fiberglass widebody) to prepare for paint. I'm going to drop a few gs on suspension parts, get some partsfor the engine (i have aNEW 2.3l), a custom fiberglass dash covered with black suede, and other random stuff (fire extinguisher system). I'll drive it until the stock 4 speed dies, then i will look for a 5 speed i can use.

The last event I was at just a couple of weeks ago was an autox hosted by a local Corvette club. But I got a good laugh when there were about 15 Mustangs there. And a couple of us put on a fairly good showing since they design their courses to be able to mash the gas and not turn too much.
I won F stock (again) and a 2000 GT took second in class.
