Default Which Gear?

I was reading somewhere that a driver should be either in 1st or 2nd gear while driving Auto-X. Is that true?

Are there any websites specifically for mustangs that give driving tips for this? Books, magazines that are dedicated to this sport? I not talking about rules, just on how to improve your skills and time.

On a typical autoX course, yes, you will be using 1st and 2cnd basicly all the time. Getting the car into 2cnd is a big key to navigating slaloms. Yes, there are some books out there that can help. There is a book put out by skip barber about autoX-ing that is pretty good. Go to Barnes & Noble and you will find a few reads on this by a few different authors.

Oh, that's different. You could leave in second all the time. No huge reason to actually 'shift' it. Make sure you're aggressive coming out of corners, and get the throttle mashed to the floor. Learn how to apex corners. Often times they have novice lesson sessions. Attend if you can, and ask a lot of questions. Better yet, ask a more experienced driver if you can take a lap with them. I think what you will notice is smoother is faster.

...And hey Leadfoot, one other thing you can do is ask an expert driver to drive your car (with you in it). One thing that will show you is the car's limits, as well as 'seeing' the corect lines and braking points. That is another thing you will notice riding with an expert. How well he/she utilizes the brakes.

I would love to do that. The last time I went, there were only two mustang drivers. So the next time I go, I'll ask them. I am going to push it off for a bit. $$$$ problems especially with gas at $2.07 a gallon.
I am still interested in it though.

One more question. About the battery tie down. My husband checked it and it doesn't budge. There aren't any apparent tie downs from the top, or any place to attach it to the body so why doesn't it move? Are the mustangs equipped with some thing on the bottom?

Thanks!

Yeah, there is a little section at the bottom that has to come off for you to move the battery. It should unscrew.

Based on Birdieman's post, then I don't have anything to worry about regarding my battery.
