Dumping the exhaust

Dumping the exhaust
I just got a pair of flowmaster 40 series mufflers for my 03 GT. They sound pretty good on my buddy's GT but i think that I'd like them to sound a little louder. Whats the advantage of dumping the exhaust pipes, if any? Will that make any difference in the sound? Is ther any disadvantages as well?

RE: Dumping the exhaust
Yeah, I plan on getting an off road X pipe very soon. I'm not going with headers anytime soon though. Do you think the X pipe will help?
I will proabably wait and see.
I was out riding my bike last night and a nice GT came up behind me and it sounded really mean, then as he passed me I saw that he had his exhaust dumped (no tips to be seen) and it definately did not sound like **** (thats why I asked about this). But I have no idea what kind of mufflers he had or anything else, I just know they were dumped....oh well I'm still gonna wait untill I install the X pipe.

RE: Dumping the exhaust
i just installed at cat-less xpipe in my 92 gt and i have to tell you the xpipe alone with the 40 series will blow the doors off of cars as you drive by, it sounds like a stock car when it idels, really throaty and bubly, then when you let it go it screams, i mean it is absolutley amazing if it wasnt for emissions i would leave that sucker on all the time, but damn emmissions
