Shaker Hood
Well, a couple friends and I were talking earlier this week about the possibility of installing a shaker hood onto a GT. We were just tossing around the idea since a friend of mine has an '03 GT, kind of like mine but black. Instead of buying a '03 Mach 1, he thought it might be cheaper to just install a shaker hood onto his.
I'm just curious as to what you guys think. I mean, thinking about it, it seems possible and it may give him the look he's looking for. Like I said, I'm just curious as to what you guys think.

shaker hood scoops are pretty bad ***. i think it would be a good project to do. I mean if you want it then do it and with a few gyus helping it will be easy and when your done you can all stare at it.....thats what my friends and i do when we mod anyways
if you're doing it strictly for looks and styling, then a shaker system is the way to go. if you want performance, then you need to use the search function and read up n them a little bit more before you waste your money.
After reading many posts and doing some research, I installed the CDC (Classic Design Concepts)shaker "ram air" scoop on my 07 GT. Let me start by saying, IF YOU ARE NOT A REGULAR DO-IT-YOURSELF KIND OF PERSON, Don't do it by yourself! The steps are relatively simple, but the process of doing those "steps" is the hard part. I do a lot of do-it-yourself projects and by all means survived this one but not without shaking my head thinking about CDC's "piece-of-cake" instructions for installation. For those of you who hire professionals to do home/auto projects, pick up the phone and start dialing. For those of you looking for some adventure, welcome to the club and check out my comments on the install below.
1. Measuring Hood for template placement
This step is tricky. The curvature of the hood makes it difficult. I measured between the spray nozzles and found the center, but make sure you cut out several recommended triangular cuts on template to keep it center. The nozzle cutouts are not worth a crap yet are very important when centering the template. I checked all measurements 3 or 4 times. Usually, I don't linger on things like measurement, but hey its not everyday we take a jig saw and cut a perfectly fine hood on a 30k auto!
2. Trim Ring
Screw the instructions! DO THIS LAST! I discovered after mounting the shaker that the engine was not perfectly centered with the hood center. Once you install the trim with 3m tape and rivets, your SOL.
3. Cutting airbox for cold air intake
This step made me want to put on some gloves and hit the bag! It tells you to cut the hole with a 2 3/4 hole saw and then trim out for a perfect fit. My azz! I whittled that damn hole for an hour or more. MAKE 3 OR 4 COPIES OF THE AIRBOX TEMPLATE (LAST PAGE OF INSTRUCTIONS) because you will waste the first one making the intial cut and you will need a guide while your whittling away to keep from making the hole to big. The part that snaps into the airbox never would fit perfectly for me, but its secure.
I have read numerous opinions and comments on the functionality of the shaker scoop and will not pretend to share expert advice on the subject. I would like to share a few observations I have make since installing the system. The shaker is a "cold air intake" that gets it airfrom the hood of your vehicle and it adds aretro look of the 69-70 mustangs. I have not noticed any significant power gains with the scoop, however every performance upgrade book, website, and guru will tell you that it takes a combination of upgrades to see performance gains. CDC will tell you that using a tuner will increase the engine performance with the shaker. There are many retro fit options with the shaker that can make you stang one hell of a hot rod and everyone will know your serious about performance when they see the scoop protruding from your hood. Good luck on your decision and install if you so choose to take it on yourself.
