Well you two are a huge help. For a couple of guys that have as much experience in mustangs, that was the worst display of being helpful i have seen in a while. If you aren't going to give any helpful advice, then just don't post.
Vortech is a certi blower. They dont make power in the low RPM range, they do better uptop, not kicking in til around 3k rpm. You want a roots or twin screw blower. They were being helpful, ur just being too ignorant to realize it. If you want someone to tell you you right so you can blow a few grand on something that wont meet your expectations then say that in ur post.

Ok, so no vortech. I don't plan on taking the car to the track often. My ultimate goal for the car is to have it as a second car, of course, and drive it only on nice days; but on the street. I don't need to worry too much about racing, I just want to feel the power of the s/c whenever I deem it necessary to do so. If I go with, say, a KB, would that work? Also, if I do go with that type of blower, is it practical to drive it on the street with some good tires and 3.73 or 4.10 gears??

i wouldnt run 4.10's withaKB. youll never get the power down unless you plan on running slicks and a full drag suspension on the street. Id put the KB on and see how you like it. if its still not enough, go for gears then.

+1 on the no 4.10s with KB. you'll be fine even with stock gears. you're going to be hitting your max boost almost instantly with a KB.

How drivable is a KB, though? I mean, can the engnie tolorate being run for any distance with that blower on? The instant power would be nice, but I want to actually be able to drive my car and not have to worry about the engine being overworked by such a powerful blower. I guess what I'm asking is should I settle for the delay in boost to keep the engine running well for longer?

sure. just don't mash the gas pedal at every light and drive like you would normally drive when commuting in traffic or whatever.
