Default Procharger Noise

I did a search but did not find any threads that lead to a conclusion. I've sent some PM's but now I am asking for help from Procharger owners.

I have this grinding noise that started yesterday. It's not like gears grinding, it's more like a rattling or whirring sound. It's deep but mellow, not sharp. I've had my P-1SC for 8 months and 12k miles so I know what it is supposed to sound like. Actually, the normal sounds are still there but this is an additional sound. I checked and it has oil (just changed 2k ago). I'm not suffering any performance loss, pressure loss, or a change in behavior, just a new noise.

I saw on another forum that an idler pulley with a bad bearing can make a weird noise. I called ATI and when I mentioned that they told me to verify if it was the pulley or not. Great, thanks for the help. Before I tear my build down (I didn't install, I had someone else do it) I was hoping someone had experience this sort of issue before or known what else could be the problem.

TIA!

Is it almost like a chatter of some sort? I've heard a chatter on some procharger videos. I haven't heard anything like that on mine.

It sounds like a bad pulley bearing. Called the shop and am just going to take it in. They said they had a Procharged Roush in last week that had the idler pulley seize and eat a belt. They got a replacement and the bearings appeared to be fo better quality so I'm hoping it is minimal labor as the parts are under warranty. First one they had seen, so we'll see if mine is #2.

Mine kinda makes that same sound, but it seems to only get loud when I put it in reverse...either that or I only really notice it in reverse. It's like a rattling or chatter noise. I never did figure out what it was.

Does the s/c make noise all the time ? I had problems with the surge valve makeing noise on my p1sc after about 11 months. Kind of a loud chattering noise that only occuredin the 2-3000 rpm range and during decelleration.

It only occurs at idle and slightly above. After that, the usual noises cover it up. It sounds almost identical to a bad alternater bearing. It's a low grumbling sound (sort of like grinding but not exactly like grinding) that changes with RPM, at least until you can't hear it. It's a distinctly different noise than what it usually makes and it's an additional noise, meaning it still makes the same sounds it always did and now this noise is in addition to it. The idler pulley explanation seems to be the most reasonable/applicable explanation so far. I can't take it in for another week so I'll find out then and try to limit my driving in the mean time.

The noise turned out to be the bracket (behind the mounting plate) for the idler pulley. It basically sheered in two and was rattling around. The bolt still went through the pulley and into the bracket but it was making one hellish noise. The shop replaced the pulley anyway and the belt was still good so it got bolted back together and everything is fine now. 4 days to get the part and 15 minutes to fix it. [8D]
