Default Thinking about getting NOS

I have a 2001 GT with a couple of mods(K&N CAI, o/r X pipe, tune) i am thinking about installing nitrous. What do i have to do to the motor so i wont blow it up or hurt it. Open to all ideas.

You'll need the Nitrous kit, obviously. Then you will want an RPM window switch (only allows it to squeeze at certian RPMs) and a fuel pressure regulator. With those items you will have a safe kit. To make it efficient you will also want a purge and a bottle heater to keep your line and bottle pressure optimal. Regardless of what you get for a kit and options don't exceede 100HP and GET A TUNE. I can't stress the tune enough. The last thing you want to do is go lean and grenade your motor.

Just a little FYI: NOS as a term has been KILLED by ricers. Seems everything nitrous related is NOS. NOS (Nitros Oxide Systems) is indeed a kit made by Holley. If you are just talking about nitrous in general, it's N2O. . Not trying to be an a$$ just a little pet peeve of mine I guess, by living around a lot of ricers that hold their body kits on with NOS stickers [&o]

If you wouldnt have said it I would have.
Nitrous will not hurt your engine if used properly. Where most people who hurt their engine run into trouble is trying to run too much for what their engine and/or fuel system can handle. Since nitrous works by adding more oxygen to the cylinders (chemical supercharging), the fuel system has to be able to add enough fuel to keep the a/f mixture at a safe level and the engine has to be strong enough to handle the increased cylinder pressures.

+1 to Slvr02GT for the most part.

In the New Edges, you dont need a fuel pressure regulator. That can be controlled by the tune. You may want a fuel pressure SWITCH though. THat is a safety feature that will turn off the juice if the fuel pressure drops too low. That is a good safe guard. Again, TUNE, tune, Tune, tune!!!! That will be how your car lives and dies. From personnal experience, you may want to put a better clutch in too(assuming you are running the stocker).Mine started seriously slippin after the first full bottle. That will be so that you can utilize the extra power. You will love it. I made over 100 extra ft/lbs w/ a 100 shot. That was slipping on the dyno too.

In regards to a stock internals engine like yours, I would go up to 100 shot. You can go higher but, you are starting to enter a grey area on when your engine will pop. You should be fine if you use your head and dont skimp on the safety extras. Good luck

+1 for the NOS thing too. It is nitrous or N20. Nos is made by Holley.

Zex is a good system as it uses nitrous pressure in direct relation to fuel pressure via the control box. Also a very easy hookup from what I understand.

have you thought about a s/c. it a bit more money but will be worth it. i have n2o and i wish i now had that 500 bucks to help with a s/c. ill get a s/c then sell my n20. just something to think about

BTW i have zex and my electical controll box has been shorthing-very bad- get the cylenoids (spelling) from zex or get a diff. brand. i have to ditch the box and go with the simple set up now. they said the box was 400bucks to replace. F that.

I have had that EXACT same issue with ZEX. When I decided to switch to a different brand I opened up the ZEX control box and was horrified by the crappy wiring in the box... I will never use a ZEX produce ever again. Dynotune Nitrous is good as is NX and NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems). There are others out there but those are what I have either had experience with or heard good things about.
