I am prety sure that i read most mechanical oil gauges hook up outside the car on the hood, because you don't want to chance oil coming in the car. I THINK.

Oil is OK - Fuel is NOT

Oil will make a mess, maybe spray a small amount of hot oil in side the car. Not really that big of a deal.

Gas spraying inside the car - especially if anyone in the car is smoking - IS a really big deal.

Why would you want a mechanical one? Look at the ones on this site: http://prosportgauges.com/index.php Their prices are good and appearantly they are of good quality.

No need to deal with a sending unit going bad or being inaccurate on a mechanical gauge. Electronics these days are very good, BUT, sometimes the good old fashion mechanical way works just fine.

Mechanical guages do typically require more attention to detail when doing the install but if done correctly will be problem free for years.

I prefer the mechanical gauges. And as said above, oil, water, etc. Are fine, the fuel pressure needs to be outside. Your asking for trouble putting one of those inside.

I prefer manual gauges over electronic, simply because of ease of installation. Much much easier, less clutter from all the wiring also.

Ive never had any problem out of mechanical gauges or electronic gauges. Both work great. I just hate all the extra wiring that goes along with electronic gauges.
