Default Thoughts on oil separators?

Well, I did a search and came up with a lot of posts about oil separators in s197 applications. I saw some guys saying they're a neccesary item for supercharged cars especially, others were saying it was a normal design for the 05-up Mustangs.

I know kind of sorta of what it does, but I have no idea which direction to go in terms of brand, or if I should do oil breather, oil separator, or crankcase vent? Am I correct on those being the options? Also, being those guys were talking about the S197s in nearly every post I found, are us SN95 guys any different?

I remember there being a very very thin coat of oil on the intake tube where it sleeved into the throttle body, but I guess I just thought it was normal...also at that time period I was getting blow by from a damaged piston and thought it was related to that. Perhaps it was, but I didn't drive the car to find out ya know.

Anyways, just wanted to see if anyone could help lead me in the right direction. Do I do it, or not...if I do, what direction do I go with it? It's not an extremely expensive mod for preventitive purposes, even if it's unneccesary, but I guess I'd like having a better understanding.

Thanks

The steeda is nice but a pretty much exact replica can be made with parts from lowes for less money. I think the DIY is on stangnet.com. I did it back in the day on my 96 that was N/A with 195k and it would get a good bit of oil in it between changes and such.

I was running one on my Procharger setup and it worked pretty well. Before i used to get some oil in the intake. I would definitely save the money and DIY with parts from a hardware store as stated above.

They're not an absolute necessity. If you're getting oil in your intake then it's something to think about. On my application I just have breathers on each valve cover, but never any oil seepage or saturation in the breathers, so I'm not too concerned about a separater.
