man, I am so glad you asked....

Perhaps if you had searched, we wouldnt be here (here being me telling yet ANOTHER noob something that he could figure out by ****ing searching)

Jack up the back of the car.
Mark your driveshaft
mark the inside of one of your tires
spin the tire so it makes one full revolution
count the number of times the driveshaft went around

3-1/4 = 3.27:1
3-1/2 = 3.55:1
3-3/4 = 3.73:1
4 = 4.10:1

anything less than 3-1/2... and you need gears!

adder has been here a while and after you are here for a while and answer the same question over and over it can wear on you. He does how ever know his stuff so A little attitude for good advice is a small price to pay... I have not yet been concerend with gears so I actually didn't know that as well so you are not alone and that question helped two people....

Just fyi, these cars cannot be tuned with a hand-held tuner. You need to take it to a professional to get a chip burned or you need to buy a piggyback tuner which requires a computer to program it. The latter comes with an extremely steep learning curve. And like adder said, neither will make much of a difference without some serious engine mods.

Go buy a timing light and see if the timing has been advanced (stock = 10deg). If not, bump it up until the car pings under wot and then back it off a little. Use premium gas if you want to do this.
