exhust expantion help

Default exhust expantion help

ok i have a 86 gt 5.0 i need to expand my driver side starter exhust pipe. both the pipe and the muffler is 2.5. i rented an expander tool from auto zone. it didnt work worth sh*t. so is there any other way to expand it with out messing up the pipe?

Why do you have to expand it? So you can slide the pipe over the muffler opening? Get it welded.

You have to lightly tap the expander in before goin at it with the impact wrench, either that or take a 32 oz dead blow hammer to it til it sticks in there haha. Honestly could have just been a bad expander, try auto zone again and if it's still bad go for advance auto. Their parts are usually a higher quality and the rent a tool rates are cheaper

tony71502 i have to expand it cause both pipes are 2.5 in. and badass96gt ill try an impact lol i didnt even think of that i had just used a vise and a regular wrench. thanks

Id try an exhaust coupling. Or weld it.

Pipe expanders work alot better on hot pipes. Hit it with a torch with the tool in place, then after it'll burn your fingerprints off, open it up.

Myself, I hate fabbing stuff to make it work. I'd be returning one of your products for the correct ID piece
