shorty headers will bolt up to your stock H pipe or an aftermarket mid pipe if you already had one... They offer decent gains, but not as effecient as longtubes. Longtubes, are much longer (hence the name) and therefor flow much better. Longtubes will require the use of a shorter or "shorty" mid pipe. As far as header brands... there's a ton, BBK makes good quality headers with a good fit for a very competitive price. JBA, Bassani, Hooker, MAC, SLP, and Fprd Racing Performance Parts makes a good shortyt header if thats what you want. If a deep sound is what you are looking for, get a set of longtubes an H-pipe and a chambered muffler of some type.

why would it be better to get the ceramic-coated headers over the others?

ceramic coating prevents rust and makes them last a lot longer.

if you go with shorties go with a good brand such as bbk. they are tuned to give the the most out of a shortie.

Ceramic also retains heat better. That increases the speed of the exhaust gases passing through the header thus allowing the engine get rid of waste (exhaust) faster and allowing more fresh air and fuel in on every stroke.

but watch out... if you get LT on a basic stock car with a few cheap bolt-ons then you will actually loose power and low end torque.
