I am putting on shorty headers and an x pipe. I was wondering what exhaust leaks sound and look like. thanks for you help.

well you see carbon on the pipe if leaking..you shouldn't have a problem

if it is louder than you think it should, you might have an exhaust leak

my car has straight pipe, and it has an exhaust leak and its actuly quiter with it

yeah but your 'puter isn't getting the right reading off the 02 sensor with the leak

If you want to check for an exhaust leak, the easiest way to do so is by getting a rag or something to use, to put your hand over the tailpipe/s. Than, after 2-3 seconds of holding it,let off, and if it builds up pressure your fine, and if it doesn't build up pressure than you have a leak. Now that you know you have a leak,you can narrow itdown were it is by visual checking first and than if you cant find it that way. Get a friend to put his hand on the exhaust pipe/s fora second or 2and listen for a hissing sound and sometimes you can actually seea liquidcoming out or see the gap.</P>

mostly you can tell just by the way it soundsif ya rev it up and ya hear a hiss from anywhere other than the rear of your car its a leak you just havta find where its comming from... most common spots are where ya olt everything up to. lol</P>
