Default strut positioning

So I've been on the forum about the front end clunking. We're getting somewhere. . . However, I looked this morning under the hood at the peaks of the strut towers [for lack of a better word] and low and behold the passenger side strut is NOT riding in the center of the 'tower'. Is this ok? Normal? Danerous? And it's WAY off, like and inch or more!!! HELP.
