Default Widest tires fornt/back

I was wondering what the widest tire I could go on the front and back of my '05? It has the 17" wheels.

I have seen 275 I think but its a stretch. Most go with 255 on the stock 17s

At a minimum you should be able to run the equivalent of the tires on the Shelby GT500 which are 285R and 255F. I have them on my car with no problems. I also have the GT500 wheels.

those would be 18s not 17s though. 275 in the 17s is probably the most you want to push it as teh ones i saw had a little buldge to them as it was.

Go to the Tire Rack website and look at the "Spec" pages for tire makes/models that you might be considering, or which at least have the sizes that you are thinking of getting. The widest tire you should mount on your wheels is the size that lists your rim width as the narrow end of the "rim width range".

FWIW, narrower rims for any given tire sizetend to improve ride comfort at some sacrifice in crisp steering response and good overall behavior under hard cornering. I also suspect that a little bit of straight line grip is given away, which could also affect extreme braking.
