Default DR TIRES

Hey guys, I've been going to the track alot, and i dont plan on stopping, lol... Its like a drug, but a heathly drug I think

I'm a college student, so it takes me a while to save up money to put into my stang. My GT is bone stock and so far my best time is 13.80@101 w/ 2.1 60ft and i know there room to improve the 60ft. I came this close to buying the pypes system exhuast but then i noticed i had bald tires So i had to put the money into new rubber. So i have 4 brand new kumho tires that i got for about 120 each. & at this rate; i have a feeling im going to go through these tires alot faster then i'll like to.

So my qestion(s) are, do you guys think i should get 2smaller rims/dr tires? I do have 18' rims and i dont know what kind of play that has against me at the track. I'm thinking instead of eating through street tires, i should just get drs. My other questions are i saw a guy in a 5.0 stang snap his axle cuz of the dr tire he had on, can that happen to my car? what kind of wear and tear im i putting onto my car w/ drs? & is this a good investment? i could put the money toward intake/tune...

much thanks

oo, lol. i forgot, if u do think i should get dr, what kind/size? both tire/rim.

I don't think you'll be snapping anything unless you have more than 500ft of torque at the wheels and launching at very high rpm's always, our stock 8.8" rear ends are tough and the last thing you should worry about. I plan on getting a set of DR's myself on my 18' fanblades. 255 width is recommended on the stock 8.5 rims but i haven't decieded which DR to get. I hear Mickey Thompsons are the best.

BTW old 5.0s have 28 splines, ours 31 thus alot more durable.

500ft of tq? lol, no my car still stock. I guess im woundering what neg side effects if any do dr have on ur car? Im not sure if its bad for my clutch, tranny or what. I hear alot of great things about mt dr, but ill prb get a set of smaller rims to so i can just slap on the wheels and go.

So pretty much my gt is my DD and im not trying to break stuff to quick.

You should have no problems with the DR tires and I cant give good advice on the type as I do not have them. Snapping the drivetrain (rear)on a stock car though not impossible is unlikely on a stock car with DR's. Its when you push the limit of the HP on any of the components and now you hook up off the line better because of the DR's and the weakest link breaks (usually the rear end). The only drawback I can see is you will squeal less (fun factor) but you will improve your 60 ft times and win races at the trackagainst a comparable car. JMO and MT's are great and have been around forever.
