FYI, the Milliken brothers book is titled "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics" not race car vehicle design - just in case anyone was having trouble finding it. I just purchased a book titled "How to tune and modify engine management systems" by Jeff Hartman and I found it to be a great read. It goes into details about all the different sensors and actuators and how they affect the engine's fuel/timing map.
