NITTO nt555r as a DD?
I want some better tration but im looking for a cheaper way than buying all new wheels and tires and spending 2k. so what about these nt555r as a DD(just for the rear of coarse)? will it work? is it safe for rainy days? i live in florida so the chance of snow is basically none. and the only size i can find is 275/40-17 so will these fit on my stock 17/8 wheels?

RE: NITTO nt555r as a DD?
Not the hot tip on several accounts.
275/40's should not be mounted on wheels that are less than 9" wide, and this is particularly important for long-term street usage. Usually you can sort of "get away with" cheating the min width by half an inch or so for very short durations such as emergency necessity, but it's a very poor choice for anything that looks at all like normal use. Think extra flexing that may extend into regions of the sidewalls that weren't designed to take that kind of punishment, extra heat, Florida summers . . . Explorers & Firestones if carried to extremes or allowed to become badly underinflated.
The other thing is that even though DR's are technically street-legal, it's not wise to use them that way. First off is poor wet traction. There was a thread a few months ago involving DR's, loss of control (and IIRC crashing through a fence), and a several thousand $ repair bill (I don't recall there being any serious injuries). The guy lives in Fla.
Finally, and I know I've mentioned this elsewhere, if you use up all the best part of the DR's stickiness in street-driving heat cycles, they won't be there for you at the track. Or at a stoplight challenge, for that matter.

You can LEGALLY use DR's on your car whenever you want to.
It's not safe for rainy days, someone just posted up how they wrecked their supercharged silver GT by letting their wife drive it in the rain.
That tire size will not work with your wheel, the wheel is too narrow.

i would consider bfg g-force kdws...i just changed my last ones out and got 40,000 miles out of them
discount tire said that nitto's 555r's are a little cheaper but are only good for about 15,000 miles

If you are reffering to the Nitto drag radials, read my post 4/06/08WAS A VERY SAD DAY! I just totaled my car on Sunday with those tires on Rt 60 going eastcoming from Tampa Florida in the rain.

I put 555r on all 4 corners of my 72 Gs, but that is not a daily driver car. I take it out maybe 6 times a year.
I have been caught in a rain and I was actually surprised how well they gripped, but I would not recommend them for daily driving.
