Default Good Vibrations (Not really)

Alright...so when I am at speeds of anything around under 40-50 MPH, everything is fine. However recently, when I've exceeded 50 MPH, my steering wheel starts to shake or vibrate a bit. I don't think it is my exhaust or anything like that...I hit a curb not too long ago and shortly after that I noticed this happening. I wasn't going too fast, but It did happen. Curb was on the right side. Could I have knocked something out of alignment or messed something up?

How could I check??

Thanks

If you can set up a pair of parallel strings (one down each side of the car) you can check toe, which is probably out of spec. Problem is, you´ve probably bent something like either the spindle (that´s just the stub axle, BTW) or the knuckle. Check also for a bent wheel and look for places where a wheel weight might have been fastened (but got thrown off by the impact).

this didn't start after you got new wheels or rotated your wheels did it?

if you curbed your wheel you also may have lost a wheel weight.

at 45+ its your wheels. You need them balanced.

No, these are not new wheels or anything like that.

If I bent the the wheels somewhere...would It have messed up just the rims themselves, or would it have possibly thrown something else out of whack? I wanted to get new rims eventually... If I got new rims, would that fix the problem if it were just bent rims? Or is there something else causing it like the entire thing got thrown out of alignment?

I really dont know what I'm talking about here.... so sorry if everything is vague lol.

If your tires are not directional you could swap the wheels left to right and vice versa to see if the vibrations followthe wheel.

Just for the duration of testing, running directional tires on the "wrong" side is not a problem. Or you could swap tires front to rear if they´re the same size (or at least close).

But...If I switch them...I'll still have the vibration either way...

What you´re trying to do is determine if it´s a bent wheel or a bent suspension part by whether the vibration moves to the corner that you move the wheel to or not. That might help tell you where you need to start.
