Default Question about Eibach Pro dampers

Hey all,

I can get these for $360 but are they any good compared to the D-Specs that everyone seems to recommend? I do plan on getting Eibach Pro Springs or the Ford Racing K-Springs. Now I'm not planning on doing any racing (maybe Solo later) but I do want better handling and to reduce that wheel well gap.

Also, how hard is it to install the dampers/springs on your own? I am in no way a mechanic of any sort, but I have done a few minor things. The biggest thing I've done was to convert the drums on my 68 to disc and replace all the brake lines; how would an install like this compare in difficulty? I just don't want to get into a position and be like "what the h##l did I get myself into".

Thanks

I am actually in the very same spot that you are right now....trying to figure out exactly which springs & struts/shocks to get. I guess I have narrowed the springs down to the eibach pro-kit ($215-$230 depending on where you buy) or the Ford Racing M5300K springs ($159.99 http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS). As far as the struts/shocks, I'm thinking about going with the Koni, non-adjustable, STR.T struts/shocks because my budget won't allow for much more at this time....but once again, I'm still on the fence about it all.

As far as the install, only you know what you are capable of doing mechanically. I will be doing all the work with (2) friends who have done this sort of thing before.

As you have probably read in just about 1 million threads - the D-Specs or the Koni adjustables are the ONLY under $1K dampers for this car. You will get this guy or that guy saying "I have brand X and they are awesome" - fine, glad you are happy with them, but the folks who race, AX and setup this car for competition and have actually tried more than one aftermarket damper say otherwise, listen to their wisdom.

The spring and/or damper install is pretty simple IF you have the tools. There is nothing hard about it but do your homework and know what you need before you start. Personally, my car sat on jack stands for 3 days because I had to make a couple trips to Sears.

The last time I was in a car on Eibach dampers was a VW Jetta. I knew it was lowered by looking at it. After riding in it and seeing the car had 100k miles on it and feeling it flopping around like a dying fish I said to the kid "you know you ought to get some decent shocks on this thing, those worn out stock ones aren't cutting it with these springs".

He just stared at me and said "I have an Eibach kit with their shocks". He probably thought I was stupid. I was sea-sick and astounded by how bad the damping was.

Thanks guys. As far as going Eibach Springs, anything bad about those? I've read they're the same as the FRPP K-Springs. Are Vogtland or Teins better or worse?

Thanks

Ford Racing K springs are Eibach Pro-kit. I don't think they are the best, but not terrible and far better than their dampers are.

I have the eibach pro system, it came with the dampers and I have nothing bad to say about them. I am no expert but they handle like a dream, nothing for me to complain about, except maybe a little bit stiff on small bumps or highway expansion joints. I'm not saying that they are the best, but certainly they are a huge handling improvement over stock.

Can't argue that. As I've stated in other threads, it's all relative to what you know, what you've tried and what you are comparing to.
