ABS Brake fluid change
#4
THe ABS fluid is your brake fluid

so therefore you should follow the normal recommendations in your owners manual for changing the fluid.
If you have upgraded your fluid to DOT 4 the normal recommendation is that it be replaced, flushed, once a year as DOT 4 fluid tends to absorb moisture faster than DOT 3 fluid. If you do this using the brake pedal then my understanding is that it doesn't flush out the fluid in the ABS unit. To do so requires a special technique

In my case we have changed the brake fluid twice without the use of the tool.

There are two ways to properly change your brake fluid and then there is the good enough way:
Proper way 1: take it to a shop with the proper tools to cycle the ABS pump and get the fluid thru it
Proper way 2: Fully bleed your brakes using the standard way of cracking the bleed screws at the caliper while someone presses the pedal. Then go drive it and activate the ABS. Then bleed it again. Then go drive and activate the ABS again. Do this a few times and you are good to go. Using two different colors of fluid really helps here - like ATE Blue and ATE Type 200.
Good enough way: just bleed the system and don't worry about the ABS.
