I went with the Steeda Ultra-Lite 1's... I'll let you guys know how they do sometime towards the middle of February, that's the next track day. Unless I can contact my buddy who is a member at the track and have them open up the course so I can go make some test runs.

I am *most likely* going to be running the Nitto NT01 275/40/ZR18 tires. Can't say I will be able to give professional feedback since I am still somewhat inexperienced but I'll do my best.
The GT500 wheels are 28-29 lbs., but they are stout. The Steeda UltraLite I's are indeed 23 lbs. on the bathroom scale, I just weighed them. I picked up a set of them on the sale too.

Here's a picture of the test fit. They clear the Saleen brake kit with room to spare and look pretty good too (without rubber at least).

Agreed, R-Comps can really cover up bad driving without you even knowing.

Done that twice on this car, also on a BMW 3 series I went through a few sets. I figure it's about time for an upgrade.

Why not order the +38mm offset? That's what most of the 9.5" wheels in other brands for our cars are using. I'd guess the Enkeis would clear even the Brembos (fatty calipers) with a narrow spacer?

Try the NT05. It is a *great* tire as a transition tire from street to R-comp. A good bit cheaper than the NT01, too. If you are quick, you can call Steeda, as they will mount them for you before shipping.

I don't think this would help. The brake template doesn't only interfere with the spokes, it interferes with the hoop towards the front (where it dips down to meet the spokes). I had to pull the template out a full inch before the top of the calipers gained clearance. That's why I said the only template that came remotely close was the AP Racing one. That might work with a 10mm spacer, but it's a moot point for me (Stoptechs are on their way), and I really want to avoid using a spacer if I can.

At any rate, I think I'll end up with the 5Zigen wheels; I'm working out a deal with a local seller. The weight is good and the price I'm getting is great, so we'll see. I may slap my buddy Dave's set on just to take a gander at the look before I go through with the sale. Their a track-only set, so I only half-care what they look like...but I still care.

Best,

Got somewhere I can get them mounted and balanced for free. I was also looking at the NT05 but Nitto classified it as a drag radial - for "serious drag enthusiasts". I don't drag with my mustang unless it's on the street and I don't want track tires for the street, just my regular old street tires and stock rims. I have a local mustang performance shop though that works pretty much exclusively on stangs. I may check them out and see what they have. And I would have bought them from Steeda but I found a few places that were cheaper for the tire even though Steeda would mount and balance them for free. I don't need rubber till Feb. 20th anyway.

That's the NT05R.

They still have the "regular" NT05 available.

Yeah, the RPF1's are awesome! Ask me how I know...
I just got them last week, and just returned them this weekend.

First, by my scale they're even frippin' lighter than advertised. W/o air valve or wheel weights, the 18x9.5" (+45mm offset) wheels I got were 17 lbs ea. I weighed them half a dozen times, only once coming up with 18 lbs, but the bottom line is they're crazy light for this price.

Second, the black version is now available in this size. GORGEOUS! And black hides brake dust; perfect for a track wheel. I paid around $300/wheel for the black versions.

Now the deal-killer; they absolutely will not clear a BBK for our cars. I tried templates for Stoptech, Bear, Wilwood (extrapolated), and AP Racing. Bad, all bad, the only one coming close is the AP Racing and even that requires a half-inch spacer (which of course, in this offset, would bring the wheel outside the fender). Since I was given an offer on a Stoptech set up I couldn't refuse (and it's on its way), I was undone.

No, actually, I was heartbroken. I LOVE these wheels, and I thought I had verified fitment. Where I got that bone-head idea, who knows!? I'm an idiot. There, I said it, I'm a damn idiot! *Kids, don't try this at home...I'm a professional.*

There...catharsis...

Hey Philo

I have the front Saleen BBK - (ie Stoptech ST40 caliper) & my race shop guy just mounted up the Enkei RPF1 same size as yours - WITH A SPACER - He said it all looks good - MAY have to roll the fender lip slightly .
If you are still interested let me know & I will get the exact spacer info.
