Default Front Springs Rotate?

I have another thread about a front end popping noise, but I had no answers to my problem, so I'll keep researching.

Now, I would like to know (in order to try to find what the problem is), is it normal for the front springs to rotate when you turn the steering wheel?

Thanks.

Yes.

The bottom of the spring sits on a perch that's welded to the strut body. So when you steer, the strut and the lower spring seat absolutely must turn as well. The spring isn't going to slide in its seat, so it also turns.

That's why the upper strut mount has a bearing as part of it, so that the spring can freely turn with respect to the car body. Popping noises usually indicate trouble with this bearing.

Hey Norm,

Thanks for your reply! I'll check the bearing to see if that's the problem.

The stock upper strut mount has a bunch of tiny bearings.
