The lack of technical refinement is a LOT less than it used to be.

That is true. Beamers have Vanos. Ford has TiVCT. Both do exactly the same thing.
Beamers have Valvetronic (continuously variable lift), Ford does not. But it will not be long before Ford does one day develop such a variable valve device of its own.
Interstingly, I don't think the M3 has Valvetronic.

While many Beamers have Direct Injection, our 'Stangs do not have it yet. But it will not be long; Ford specifically designed the Coyote heads to one day mount direct injection.

The technological gap is closing, and I personally think that American ingenuity will prevail when these things are implemented and put into our 'Stangs.

Default Bravo Jim 5.0!

Excellent history lesson. I was aware of many of the issues you touched upon but did not have the command of the details as you did. I made the Ak47 comparison to illustrate the point you expounded upon so expertly. One of the primary strengths of the Mustang is that it is simple and cheap to manufacture and gives you the equivalent performance of German and European cars twice their price. This simple and effective engineering was what helped win us World War Two. As a captured German SS Officer told a young private David Hackworth (later to become the most decorated soldier of the 20th century, See "About Face") "I was captured because I ran out of 88mm ammo for my Panzershrek before you ran out of tanks"

While the technical gap has closed, in fact there is little question of the superiority of the Coyote engine, the car still lacks refinement . . . . and that is exactly why I like it. It gives me stuff to do to make it perfect. The European cars will only give you performance if they can wrap it in a butter leather $70,000.00+++ package. Otherwise you get a 2 liter Fiat. We in America appreciate the bottom line and if we want butter leather, we'll do it ourselves thank you very much.

You guys pretty much summed it up.
Had you posted in the beginning of this thread, it would have been a two page deal, lol.
