Parking brake stuck
I went out to start up the mustang just now, I haven't driven it in maybe two weeks, (I put it in the garage for the winter) and it started up fine but when I pulled it out a little bit to have it warm up I notice the parking brake was still partially on. The handle still has tension in it but you can tell you have to pull it up several inches before it starts to pull anything and the back brakes are definitely on. I have not had it out in the snow or ice but it has been cold I wouldn't thing it would just freeze up without having snow or ice on it, any suggestions? I wont be driving it around till it warms up anyway but would like to figure out what this is.

If you didn´t get the cable wet somehow so it would freeze later it´s not the TSB on it.
Hope one of the mechanic guys will chime in, as I´d think the only other options are rust and some kind of release spring for the E-brake that´s failed.

common issue.. bottom line is bad break line design .boot by rear rotor breaks down and or will let water in. there is a line to each side and also a line permenantly atached to the handle hopefully you wont need this one.it will only get worse

alright so I took the parking brake off and just left it in gear, im going to see if it will release itself if it ever goes above freezing here soon but my question is how much is the cable that I need and is it the whole cable from each caliper to the handle or just a section? Also how hard is it to replace? I am assuming ford will not fix it for free since my car is an 05, although it seems like its something that wasn't designed right so I feel like they should take responsibility and fix it, the cars only got 34,000 miles on it.

I had the same problem, and ended up replacing the two lines that went to the rear calipers. The boots on the ends at the calipers were toast. I don't remember how much it cost, but I would recommend getting the Haynes or Chilton manual, because if I remember correctly it has a section in it for de-tensioning the ebrake handle cable and clip that the two rear lines hook up to. I didn't know that when I put mine on and it was impossible to install. Honestly, I would take it do the dealership and have them take care of it. I don't remember how much it cost, but its not ridiculous. Definitely worth PITA it was to install. Also a good way to unstick it and see if its for sure frozen it to get a hairdryer, and an extension cord. Heat em up and if they release then you know they were for sure frozen. It worked for me.

About a year ago my passenger side parking brake cable seized. It cost 24.xx dollars from ford for the cable that goes from the bracket that both cable connect to and runs to the caliper. It's really not to bad of an install about an hour if you know what you're sort of doing. The clip that holds the cable on the caliper is difficult but take your time and it's not bad. Dealership wanted 250 to replace it, but that was including diagnosing the problem, even though I had already removed the cable and told them how to fix it.
