brake upgrade recommendations
Like many, I ran HPS pads on my '08 GT for a while. But I was never satisfied with their 'bite' - no better than stock. I have no experience with Centric pads or any mass-market ceramic pads. I switched to Carbotech when I started tracking my car and haven't looked back.
Off-camber curves???

I want to upgrade my GTs front brake setup and have read a few threads about s550 brakes, and a few about using 07-08 gt500 brakes so my biggest question is, is there any real difference? From what I have gathered price is very similar, so does one preform better than the other? Tia
Really late to the conversation but...
I have a 2013 performance pack car, V6 so it came with the 13.2" GT brake rotor set up (v the 12.4" standard on the V6) and has 19x8.5" rims with summer only pirelli's
I did perhaps a half dozen track events with the stock brake set up and then drove it about 10,000 miles on the street and was quite happy with the performance (sans when doing repeated heavy braking and they would fade and fade and fade.... but this was usually very near the end of any stint I got to do on any roadcourse, so I was not very concerned)
I will admit in part I installed the Brembos for the look of filling up behind the wheel better and the Brembo name... vanity, sure alittle bit
oe spec sheet tells me that supposedly this set up would stop from 70mph in 152' and weighed in @ 31.8lbs per rotor
But I did do the local votech track and they had the skid pad open and I could routinely stop from 70 in about 132'-135'. I did 3 passes
I did eventually change to the Brembo 14" set up
the calipers weigh more and the rotors weigh almost 5 lbs more- so lots more mass.
I had put in a mass produced ceramic brake pad (not even positive on brand anymore) and after some bedding them in and going to another event at that same vo-tech on a similar weather day, I was still stopping from 70mph in about 131'-138'... I did 5 passes 131' and change was the best, 138' or so was the worst
On the street, the perhaps 5000 miles I have driven them on the "fun roads" at a mildy spirited pace I have not noticed any difference from the stock set up
I am definitely wanting and planning to go do some roadcourse stuff again as I have been neglectful for about 4 years now of barely even driving my mustang (sub 3000 miles in 4 years)
But I think I want to upgrade the pads to something better
I am not really sure which way to go???
I mean in a typical year I only drive the car about 1000-1500 miles for fun on the street, and was doing about 1 roadcourse event a year (200ish miles) and I don't want to have to change pads, nor do I want them making noise when I pull up to stoplights or into town under "normal soft braking" and keeping dust down would be nice- but not nearly as much priority
So come spring I plan to remove my 16,000 mile 10 year old stock rubber and replace those with something better....... As little as I drive I may as well go stickier, they will age out before wear out
and I plan to replace those "unknown" brake pads with something better
then go have some more fun, more than I have managed these past few years for sure..
So since this thread originated about brake pads........ Any suggestion?
I had considered the Hawk Performance Street 5.0
Also....... why is it, companies can't just disclose what the cf is instead of sales hype like
"increased stopping power"
or at the very least, show some real data that xyz car on oe pads stopped in x feet at x mph and we installed these pads and nothing else and now that same xyz car stopped in y feet at x miles per hour
or maybe I just haven't seen such video or data and it is out there???
thanks guys, I also appreciate reading information on here
