Does anyone know why the flap on the end of the airbox intake is removable?
What happens if you take it off? Looks like it just unclips
I was wondering the same thing. I just went out to the garage and removed it from the air box. You do have to unbolt the air box to gain access to the front rubber clip. With the air box back in and the front "flap" removed there is much more air/room around the air box intake opening.
With it on, the air box intake is right up against the edge of the fender, which only allows air to be sucked in from the dead air space behind the headlight. With the flap removed, there is much more room around the air box intake opening. Enough to put your hand right down into the air box and feel the filter. So air can also be drawn in from the opening near the brake antilock control box, which is open all the way through to the ground. It may also draw more warm air in from the engine compartment, but not as much as most CAI.
I don't know if it will add any power, who knows, but maybe it will allow more of the supercharger wine to be heard. I haven't driven it yet, I will do that tomorrow and see if I can hear any difference.
